Yesterday was the 7th birthday of Neil Gaiman's fantastic blog. As a happy birthday gift to all of us...

One thing we've decided to do, as a small celebratory birthday thing is, initially for a month, make a book of mine available online, free, gratis and for nothing.

Which book, though...? Ah, that's up to you.

Which is wonderful, except that the unwashed blog-reading masses are voting for ridiculous things, like Neverwhere and American Gods. Perfectly fine books, but nothing even close to the elegance and awesomeness of Gaiman's short stories. So please please please go here, vote for Smoke and Mirrors (we only need, um, like, 800 votes right now) and then when we've triumphed you'll get a free copy and see just what I mean. Please spread the word. If we lose, I guess everyone can borrow my copy. If I can find it! So vote!

I feel like you and my girlfriend should have tea or something. Pam loves Gaiman. He actually linked to her on his blog once. It makes her happy whenever I bring it up.

Like now.

Did you happen to catch this bit in Variety about Leigh Silverman directing a workshop of a new Stephin Merritt/Neil Gaiman musical? Heaven!

"several years of development will result in a reading this spring of "Coraline," a musical adapted by graphic novelist Neil Gaiman and indie synth-pop iconStephin Merritt from Gaiman's novel (a separate film version of which is in production from Focus Features)."
