Carl Sagan: made space beautiful, made science romantic, is extra awesome autotuned. In honor of his birthday, I do encourage you to read Contact and Cosmos, and, more feasibly on such short notice, look at the sky tonight and think for a moment (or more) how amazing and vast it all is. It's not lonely, it's beautiful. (And pretty!) A bit more roundaboutly, but I think a lovely testament and a lovely thing to listen to anyway-- you can listen to the Radio Lab segment in which Ann Druyan, Sagan's widow, tells the stories of their falling in love and the creation of the golden record on the Voyager spacecrafts, which are the same story. You can hear it in the context of two different episodes: Space and This Is Your Brain on Love.
